There is a new lawsuit filed against Apple in October. This time, however, it’s not Samsung that sues its “evil” competitor in the market of smartphones and tablet computers. This time the case is run by two iPhone customers. Their names are Thomas Buchar and Zach Ward and they own iPhones. Last Friday these two men filed a lawsuit against Apple over AT&T iPhone lock. The putative class action lawsuit claims that the tech giant violates two acts [Digital Millennium Copyright and Sherman Antitrust] since the company didn’t obtain consumers’ permission to lock the iOS smartphones to the U.S. mobile carrier’s network. The Lawsuit Statements When Apple launched its first iPhone back in 2007, it got a 5-year agreement with AT&T to install software locks on these handsets. Of course, the company didn’t ask customers whether they wished to have their iOS smartphones locked to AT&T or not. Such an action violates the prohibition on monopolization of the Sherman Act, Thomas Buchar and Zach Ward believe, since first users who purchased the iPhone couldn’t officially use other wireless carriers in the USA. Smartphone users are allowed to modify the gadgets they own for use on any wireless network they like, according to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. But Apple limited this choice in 2007 and violated another document. A lot of customers get frustrated by getting iPhone IMEI locked to carriers. Still, similar lawsuits failed in the past. We’ll see how the court will react to the new attempt of owners to prove that the Cupertino-based company has violated the law and get monetary compensation. Apple Unlock AT&T iPhone While iPhone users think that the prices for smartphone data services increased because of Apple locking its gadgets to particular mobile carriers, you can still unlock AT&T iPhone using cheap service. This service is now possible and you can have your Apple unlock AT&T iPhone performed by the carrier itself. If you wish to find a cheaper service, you can search for vendors who offer the same service. In case Thomas Buchar and Zach Ward succeed in the courtroom, Apple will have to unlock iOS 6 on AT&T iPhone and other handsets on request. At least, this is one of many things the two men are seeking.
