Hackers can access your SIM in theory. Such iPhone SIM card hack possibility has been found by one researcher [Karsten Nohl] from Germany who assures that the vulnerability exists in over 700 million SIMs [1 in 4 of all cards]. Isn’t it unbelievable? Can you imagine anyone getting control over your smartphone? According to one German discovery, they could easily send messages using your phone number, listen to your conversations and even pay from your personal account.

About iPhone SIM Hack

According to Nohl, 25 percent of all phones can be hacked and accessed distantly. He says that it takes only a few moments to remotely control the SIM card. It is even possible to create a copy of it. How is it possible to get control over the phone? The hacker says that you can send a fake mobile operator message to the device. (Do you remember SendrawPDU and fake SMS?) It will respond with an error message that would contain the 56-bit security key for the card it is using. Then you can send another fake message that the phone accepts as a software upgrade. It will be accepted by the SIM card since it includes the security key. This message will install the virus on your iPhone and hacker will be able to access your gadget. Such hack supports only Data Encryption Standard [DES] cards. It cannot access new SIM cards with improved protection. About Karsten Nohl This researcher has found Security Research Labs in Berlin. He is the person behind the GSM encryption hack released in 2009. That tool gave people a chance to listen to handset calls via laptops and scanners. The new discovery by Nohl will be reported to public during the Black Hat conference that will be held this August. Details on the vulnerability problem have already been sent to carriers.
