The epic story involving pod2g and iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak release continues. Looks looks the hacker managed to perform this jailbreak on his iPhone 4. It took much less time than expected. Previously pod2g tweeted that it will take weeks to months to make this jailbreak real. Maybe he got too excited with finding exploits and searching for ways to overcome the latest iOS' defence. If you've read our blog recently, you know that thanking to @westbaer he found more iOS vulnerabilities. Thish should be on of the factors of today's success. So what's actually happened few hours ago? pod2g tweeted that his iPhone 4 is running iOS 5.1 untethered. That's the news we were all waiting for. here's the original tweet from pod2g:

Heya! My iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 is now untethered :-)

Now there are two options considering iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak release: it will published within the next week or two or (which is more common variant) hacker will keep it till iOS 6 release. All we have to do is to guess what will happen next as even french hacker isn't sure what to do. That's what he tweeted about an hour ago:

People say: "don't release now coz iOS 5.1 tethered is good enough". Dont forget there are AppleTV3, 4S, iPad2 and iPad3 users out there !

And a lot of these users got 5.1 out of the box...

That status update means that the jailbreak works on iPhone 4 for sure but there are lots of devices on which he didn't test the tool. And despite of the fact most iDevice users tell him not to release the solution to the public yet, there are folks that run devices other than iPhone 4 who'd like to get the tool as soon as it's possible. As there's no clue about A5 devices jailbreak ETA the iOS 6 variant seems to be very real.
