Steve Jobs Was Named the #1 Entrepreneur of Our Time

Through his amazing vision and drive, Steve Jobs forged in concert what is nowadays the most successful company in the world, and, at the same time, he changed many industries and facets of the way we live.

And, for his numerous achievements, his name is usually synonymous with the words “entrepreneur” and “visionary”. So, it is not a news and surprise that Steve Jobs was rightfully named the #1 entrepreneur of our time in a list created by Fortune.

Fortune magazine mentioned that, though sometimes abusive and mean-spirited, Steve Jobs is “our generation’s perfect entrepreneur.” They continued to describe his hate for market research as well as focus groups, because he felt that they restricted one’s ability to innovate.

Steve Jobs ignored standard R&D practices and followed his own intuition; that, as it would turn out, was much more reliable. He had a talent for “connecting the dots” and also timing that has proven to be far more valuable than standard market research.

Including 12 entrepreneurs, the famous people on the list were selected according to several factors: The success of their companies, their vision, as well as the social and economical impact of their work. Together with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, the other 11 businessmen on the list are:

  •   Bill Gates (Microsoft)
  •   Fred Smith (FedEx)
  •   Jeff Bezos (Amazon)
  •   Larry Page and Sergey Brin (Google)
  •   Howard Shultz (Starbucks),
  •   Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook)
  •   John Mackey (Whole Foods)
  •   Herb Kelleher (Southwest Airlines)
  •   Narayana Murthy (Infosys)
  •   Sam Walton (Wal-Mart)
  •   Muhammad Yunus (Grameen Bank)

To take into consideration, there are 5 other men on the rating list from Fortune who are infamous in the technology world. Bill Gates, often known as Jobs’ main concurrent ranks #2 on the list, right listed below him. Jeff Bezos of Amazon is #4, Larry Page along with Sergey Brin of Google are both #5 on the list, and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook is #7.

As Fortune magazine describes it, you will also find ‘surprises’ on the list – people who are not as popular as the “given” men who we had expect to find – like Narayana Murthy of Infosys, a successful IT consulting company in India.
