Have you ever thought that Apple company can become a mobile operator? Yes, it is true and we can see Apple mobile operator in the near future. This news came from Barcelona Informa MVNO Industry Summit where wireless industry expert Whitney Bluestein pointed out that Apple was close to release its own wireless service courtesy of Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Apple mobile operator MVNO is a wireless communication provider that doesn’t own infrastructure or spectrum because it rents these things from a larger carrier. As was said by Whitney Bluestein there were few factors that made him think about Apple mobile operator:
  1. A patent application that has been recently renewed by Apple company concerning MVNO.
  2. Growing number of Apple stores and retailers.
  3. Nono-Sim war with Nokia.
Whitney Bluestein said that Apple company would start by providing mobile data plans incorporated with iPads, after which proceeded to offer voice, data and messaging intends to iPhone owners. All sales would browse through the same iTunes accounts accustomed to buy music and applications. Also there is possibility that Apple can get rid of phone numbers which means that iPhone users will be able to call someone to their email address just like today they are able to message them using iMessage and video-call them using Facetime. But remember that it is not official statement by Apple or Tim Cook. It is only rumors. But I’m not saying that it is impossible. However recently Apple have broadened its borders and now iPhone owners can use local networks in Alaska, Virginia, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Michigan. As for me it is a good idea. But, what about U.S. government? It looks like big monopoly. Apple company become more and more powerful company in the USA. And government can’t close eyes on that. However I think that this problem will be resolved too. What do you think about that? Can it be true or not? Please leave your thoughts in the comment form below and make the discussion about Apple mobile operator.
