We have told you that Apple has applied for a new iOS  face unlock patent. The company wishes to invent its iOS facial unlock for such devices as iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The Cupertino-based tech monster wishes to use the front-facing camera in order to lock and unlock its gadgets. It will simply detect if the device owner is present or not and make the action based on this. While it’s the second time Apple files iOS unlock patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, other companies already use their facial unlock applications.

The iOS Facial Unlock patent presented in winter was supposed to let owners lock and unlock iPhones with their face. Well, the new document is not too much different. It suggests the front-facing camera can decide whether to unlock the handset or not. How will it work if the patent is awarded to Apple? Well, the iPhone camera will make rapid snapshots and let the smartphone take the next step. In case the camera cannot differentiate a person who holds the device and looks at the screen, it will not unlock the iOS Phone. In case it recognizes the owner, the gadget will be unlocked. Apple is not the first company which wants to use customers’ faces in its products. This year Google got a patent on a technology that is able to provide full access to user’s personal data based on his or her face. Besides, the company’s Galaxy S3 offers a facial unlock app and Galaxy Nexus lets consumers unlock their gadgets by taking a photo of themselves.
