If you ever wondered how long does iOS Beta last and how much time goes into new versions of iOS beta testing as well as their subsequent life cycle, probably you will be curious to see the work of Will Haines, who took the basis of publicly available data from Wikipedia, and decided to submit their in the form of diagrams.

The fastest-released version of Apple's mobile operating system was iPhone OS 2.1 in 2008 (iPhone OS in the later was renamed to iOS). At the stage of beta testing in the hands of the developers it spent only 50 days and there were only four beta versions of the firmware released. The longest was iOS 5.0, which has grown much testing - up to eight beta versions, and test time took whole 128 days (nice number, eh?). All iOS updates had at least three beta versions, except for the iPhone OS 2.2, which got betas only twice. We are looking forward to the next occurrence of the iOS 6 beta versions and, of course, the final release. The official iOS 6 introduction will be most likely held in October, that means there is still around 90 days left. Average lifetime of one beta build is 20 days so we can easily expect up to 4 beta builds and by end September we can behold iOS 6 beta 6 or something around it.
