iOS 7 jailbreak awards nomination is a great sign. This means that both programs can be used no matter what some people might say. Both iOS 7 jailbreak tools are nominated for the same award titled “Best Privilege Escalation Bug” meaning there should be only one winner unless judges decide to share this award between the two teams. As the Nomination page of the Awards state, this award will go to the team that exploited and found the most interesting escalation vulnerability. As the event organizers say, Evasi0n jailbreak was nominated for the second year in a row. In 2014 they managed to use four vulnerabilities to allow people untethering their devices.
As for Pangu tool, the credit is given not only to the Chinese guys but also to Stefan Esser, whose exploits are used by this team. This jailbreak is a hit that no one expected to see and find a great tool now as this is the only solution for untether iOS 7.1.x jailbreak. At the same time, Pangu jailbreakers state that they found all the exploits themselves. The Chinese hackers thank the Pwnie Awards for this nomination, but add
