How hard Apple is trying to protect its gadgets from jailbreaking, unlocking and downgrading it doesn’t work. iPhone Dev Team has always solutions for that needs. With every new updates from Apple come new hacks for it from iPhone Dev-Team. You have to know that Apple has released new iOS 5.1.1 (download links here) and iPhone Dev Team released updated RedSn0w 0.9.10b8b tool. This tool not only brings some improvements and bug fixes you can also jailbreak your gadget running even iOS 5.1.1. If you need to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 (tethered) just use this link. But my guide is not about jailbreak and today I wrote you guide how to perform iOS 5.1.1 downgrade to iOS 5.1 and lower using Redsn0w 0.9.10b8b. But before we start read this notes:

• iOS 5.1.1 downgrade is impossible on A5 and A5X devices (iPhone 4S, iPad 3 and iPad 2). Update: Read latest news about downgrade for A5, A5X devices.
• iOS 5.1.1 downgrade is possible only if SHSH blobs and APTicket are saved for the firmware you are going to downgrade to.

Use RedSn0w 0.9.10b8b for iOS 5.1.1 Downgrade

Step 1. Use this link to download RedSn0w 0.9.10b8b for Mac or Windows. Step 2. Use iTunes or iCloud to backup all you data files. Step 3. Connect your gadget to Mac or PC and open RedSn0w. Step 4. Click Extras => SHSH blobs and then click Stitch. Step 5. Select IPSW which you want to downgrade to. Step 6. Now select the .plist file APTicket and SHSH blobs. If these files are saved in Cydia, the feature is going to be grayed out and often will become accessible if the gadget is in DFU mode. Step 7. Put your device in DFU mode, select Cydia if the above mentioned files aren't stored locally, and Redsn0w preserves the new attached IPSW file. Step 8. Select Extras => Pwned DFU. Follow these instructions if have some problems with that. Step 9. Now make Apple think that everything is all right and it approved the process. On Windows go to Windows => System 32 => drivers => etc. On OS X go to etc. Now Open hosts file using your preferred editor and add this line at the end of the hosts file:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Step 10. Open iTunes, click Restore by holding Shift on Windows or Option (Alt) on Mac. choose the stitched IPSW file and restore. After that process your iOS 5.1.1 will be downgraded to the firmware you need. Now you can relax and jailbreak your A4 gadget untethered because mostly for this you need to perform iOS 5.1.1 downgrade. Also you saw how easy it was.
