Apple has released its next iPhone 5 with nano-SIM. This Sim card is so small that no other smartphones have it and it’s difficult for users to unlock the gadget and choose any mobile operator they wish. A while ago there were reports about iPhone 5 nano-SIM cutters that were supposed to make this small card from an ordinary SIM. Now GiffGaff, operator that has no proper nano-Sims yet, suggests users can make such a card using their method and use it in the sixth-generation iDevice. What does GiffGaff offer? Is it really possible to create a nano-SIM from the older card you were using before the iPhone 5 release? We will answer these questions after the jump. Older SIM + Scissors? According to the operator, iPhone 5 owners can simply trim down their older cards using scissors. Of course, the nano SIM card is thinner than ordinary cards, yet it is difficult to imagine how you can create this product if you have scissors only. Is it truly possible to cut a piece of plastic with chip down to nano SIM size? As GiffGaff demonstrates in its blog their micro SIM can fit into the sixth-gen Apple handset. The operator says that users who plan to try this at home should cut carefully since their SIM card might be damaged and in this case they won’t be able to use it for the iPhone 5. To Cut or Not to Cut? The iPhone 5 Nano SIM was standardised this June. GiffGaff suggests that smartphone owners who will try to create iPhone 5 nano-SIM on their own should get a snug fit. If they damage their GiffGaff SIM while trying the company promises to replace their card for free. Is it the right way how to make iPhone 5 nano-SIM card that is 12 percent thinner than ordinary pieces of plastic? The question is still debated, so it’s up to you whether to try the method advised by GiffGaff or not.
