I know that there are a lot of people that use their iPhones which were unlocked by SAM unlock. If you are that one then this post is written for you. If not then I can’t help you. You may know that there is updated SAM. Also we have iOS update to 5.1.1. So you may wonder if you can updated your iOS but afraid of losing SAM unlock. Well if you will use my tutorial guide on how to preserve baseband and unlock iOS 5.1.1 on your iPhone.

All you need to do is to save your activation key and use RedSn0w to restore and jailbreak. While we are waiting for untethered jailbreak the jailbreaking process will be tethered. First I’ll show how to update your iPhone to custom IPSW (iOS 5.1.1 firmware) preserving iPhone baseband and how to unlock iOS 5.1.1 using SAM unlock. You need to preserve your baseband while it unlockable, because when you update your iOS your baseband updates automatically. So you would have to look for new exploits for your new baseband.

Requirements

• Save iPhone Activation
• Download iOS 5.1.1 (IPSW)
• Download updated RedSn0w tool

I putted Activation ticket on the first place in Requirements because it is the main file that you need for SAM unlock. You can save it using RedSn0w tool or Cookie Cydia app or even iFile and come back here to follow my steps.

How To Build Custom iOS 5.1.1 IPSW Preserving iPhone Baseband

Step 1. Open RedSn0w you have just downloaded, and use USB to connect your iPhone to the computer. Step 2. Go to Extras => Custom IPSW. Step 3. Now select iOS 5.1.1 firmware that you have just downloaded too. Step 4. RedSn0w builds IPSW file that will help us to preserve your baseband. Step 5. After completing go to Extras => Pwned DFU And now you need to enter Pwned DFU mode. If you are new one then go here for detailed instruction on how to enter DFU Mode. Step 6. Now open iTunes and holding down Option (Mac) or Shift (Win) press Restore. Select “No_BB…” file to download IPSW on your iPhone which not updates baseband. Step 7. Go to Extras => Just Boot. You need to perform this step because of tethered jailbreak. Now you need to jailbreak and unlock iOS 5.1.1 so let’s continue. To jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 you can use this guide. Do it quick and easy with downloaded RedSn0w tool.

How to Unlock iOS 5.1.1 on iPhone Using SAM

Step 1. Install SAM on iOS 5.1.1 adding this repo in Cydia:

Step 2. Return Lockdown to stock. Step 4. SHSH your saved activation ticket to Lockdown:

/var/root/Library/Lockdown

Step 5. Reboot your iPhone (using RedSnow). Step 6. Turn off SAM. Step 7. Reboot iPhone (using RedSnow) again and wait until the Carrier Signals appear.
