AirDrop is the new feature of iOS 7 released on June 10. Apple launched the first beta of its next mobile operating system in time for WWDC 2013 conference. OS X Lion users are familiar with AirDrop option. As for iPhone / iPad owners, they are now able to either test it on their devices after installing iOS 7 beta 1 or read our review and take a look at images. The new firmware makes it much easier to share iDevice files with Mac machines and other Apple gadgets through AirDrop.

You have to be connected to Internet if you need to share your files because AirDrop requires Wi-Fi connection on iOS smartphones and tablets. It’s free to use otherwise. How exactly does it work? Let’s imagine you need to send an image to your friend. You can always email it or send through a text message still it can be faster to just launch AirDrop app and press Share button to send video file, photographs, documents and even your contact list to your friend who is standing next to you. All you have to do is click on Share and choose the person you wish to send your file to. There is no need to setup anything. This new iOS 7 feature will do everything on its own. It uses Wi-Fi connection and Bluetooth to operate, and Apple assures that such sharing option is really secure since all the files are transferred being encrypted.

According to reviews, AirDrop on iOS works similar to the same feature on Mac. It will display you all the icons of nearby iPhone / iPad / Mac gadgets that are able to get files from you. You’ll choose from the options available and that’s it. iOS users will be able to get the new version 7 option on iPhone 5, 5-gen iPod touch, iPad mini and 4-generation iPad only [all the next models released by Apple this year will also support it]. All other smartphone and tablet models won’t support this iOS 7 feature.
