After 3 years of iPhone 3GS production we will close it in the near future. We can do nothing because that's just the way it is. However I think it won't be because iOS 6 may be the last firmware for iPhone 3GS and we still hear nothing from iPhone Dev team about new iPhone unlocking solution. I know that it is not the strong argument but there is something to think about. Well , it is only 3 days to wait for iOS 6 release and only after that we will see the whole situation around future times for iPhone 3GS and unlocking tool for it. However even after updating your 3GS model to iOS 6 you may unlock it using IMEI unlocking code which will give you permanent factory unlock. I'm talking about 3GS models with newer bootloader and such baseband as 05.16.05 and uther basebands which can't be unlocked by Ultrasn0w.
