iOS 5 Maps vs iOS 6 Maps

Experts from Onavo have compared two applications: iOS 5 Maps and iOS 6 Maps. They took a look at different scenarios and tested both programs over the cellular connection. Their verdict is Apple iOS 6 Maps is better than Google as it is up to 5 times more information efficient than its competitor. We will describe the pros found by these guys and you can judge yourself which of the two Maps applications to use on your smartphone.

Map Views and Data Loaded

When you use standard Map view in the two programs and your cellular network to search for different locations, addresses, restaurants, etc.; you zoom in and out all the time as you are trying to see the specific place. If you launch Google Maps for this purpose you will load 1.3MB data for each searching activity. At the same time Apple Maps load only 271KB and this is about 80 percent less data. If you switch to Satellite view, your iOS 6 Maps application will use 428KB which is about half as much information as iOS 5 Maps app uses for the same searches [930KB]. So, from the amount of data loaded for your views and searches via cellular network Apple Maps is better than Google Maps for sure.
