Unlock the iPhone 4S Using R-SIM [How To]

Rather than waiting for free Ultrasn0w unlock for the iPhone 4S, it is better to buy R-SIM (SIM interposer) in order to unlock iPhone 4S basebands on iOS 5.0.1 and iOS 5.0. R-SIM is another Turbo SIM Card that can unlock your device and allows you to use it on any suitable GSM network worldwide. R-Sim card isn’t suitable for 3G network at the moment. GPRS works perfectly, however.

R-SIM doesn’t require to jailbreak your iPhone 4S as well as change the normal SIM card. There is no need to cut the SIM card. Simply insert the SIM card and then insert the R-SIM in your iPhone. After that, select your country and provider.

Sprint Began Locking iPhone 4S SIM Cards in November

As you might know, in November 2011 Sprint started to lock the SIM cards of all new iPhone 4S gadgets, which actually shut down the real worldphone capabilities of the device.

All you new Sprint iPhone 4S users who thought you would be able to use all the dual-mode GSM/CDMA worldphone capabilities of your elegant new Apple device when traveling to a foreign country, you better think again. In accordance with a leak from SprintFeed, Sprint began locking the SIM card of every iPhone 4S upon activation. This made it impossible to use any other SIM card besides a Sprint SIM while abroad, a restriction that increases the price of utilizing the gadget away from US.

SIM cards of those people who bought their Sprint  iPhone 4S before November 11 will, it appears, stay unlocked. This means that they’ll be able to travel to Italy, pop in a pre-paid GSM SIM card that provides a local cell phone number, and use it to their heart’s content. This can be a much less expensive way to use your own phone while you are abroad, where practically all phones are unlocked.

So, if you were planning to buy an Sprint iPhone 4S today, do not think you’re always going to get a much better deal from Verizon or AT&T – they lock their SIM cards, as well. The Sprint CDMA iPhone 4S came GSM-unlocked, while the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4S could be unlocked by request after two months.

Sprint plans to sell the iPhone 4S with its micro-SIM slot unlocked; Verizon’s will be initially locked, but if you’ve been a customer in good standing for 60 days, you can call Verizon and ask for an “international unlock”. (A Verizon spokesperson told me that this is Verizon’s standard policy for all world phones-it’s just the first time it’s manifested itself on an iPhone).

With Sprint fighting fiercely to compete with Verizon and AT&T, it’s possible it will allow its users the ability to unlock their SIM cards, too.

Certainly, there is always the jailbreak option, that will totally unlock your iPhone 4S from any type of restrictions – and also void your Apple warranty. The fact that jailbreaking is the only way to be able to do what you want with your own gadget is totally ridiculous. It is time for US cellular providers to stop acting like insecure significant others, and let folks make their own decisions.

Apple Online Store offered Unlocked iPhone 4S

The unlocked iPhone 4S sales officially began in November 2011 through Apple their website and in Apple Stores. An unlocked iPhone 4S is sold at a high price because of the lack of a contract subsidy, but the main benefit is that the phone may be used on any suitable GSM network through the purchase of a microsim card.

In the USA, this implies an unlocked iPhone 4S works with T-Mobile, AT&T, plus some pay-go plans. Moreover, anybody in possessing an unlocked iPhone 4S can use the product in another country by simply picking up a local sim card, preventing costly roaming fees.

Pricing for that contract-free unlocked iPhone 4S came in at $649/$749/$849 for that 16/32/64 GB models respectively. The unlocked gadget is suitable only with supported GSM networks, and Apple offers top tips on which customers might benefit most by buying an unlocked AT&T iPhone 4S.

“The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a contract commitment. You can activate and use it on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T in the United States.* The unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S will not work with CDMA-based carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.

If you don’t want a multiyear service contract or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It arrives without a micro-SIM card, so you’ll need an active micro-SIM card from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the micro-SIM card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.”

The company’s retail stores, however, were selling off-contract AT&T iPhone soon after launch, with customers discovering that those devices were also coming through unlocked.

iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Began

Just about a couple of months ago, on October 7, Apple has began taking iPhone 4S pre-orders at their online Apple Store. The iPhone 4S pre-orders can be also made at the AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. But the servers seem to be overloaded during the time of publishing, so may take some time to get your orders in.

The new iPhone 4S comes with an A5 processor, improved 8MP camera, much faster graphics and even Siri voice assistant. You can reserve your black or white iPhone 4S in three varieties that cost $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model, and $399 for the new 64GB version, all with a two-year contract.

According to the latest update Apple seemed to have some troubles with accepting iPhone 4S pre-orders:

But you already know that. There is no doubt that you also knew about the unlocked iPhone of the handset that has arrived in November. The jailbroken iPhone 4S could be activated with a help of micro SIM card on any GSM provider and its main advantage is that you do not get tied to a two-year plan. But for that luxury people had to pay the full price of the device running at $649 for the 16 gig model, $749 for the 32GB version and a huge $849 for the 64GB version.

However, there was a catch – Apple warned you that an unlocked iPhone 4S wouldn’t work with CDMA providers such as Verizon and Sprint.

The iPhone 4S is a dual-mode CDMA/GSM gadget, but Apple said the unlocked version worked only on supported GSM networks, like AT&T in the U.S. This means that if you travel abroad, you can use a microSIM from a foreign provider; however, the device won’t work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon or Sprint.

So who wanted to get the unlocked model? The most obvious guess is T-Mobile users, but there was a catch there too. On T-Mobile, the iPhone could only work as a 2G-enabled device as the supported frequencies differ slightly.

“Off Contract” iPhone 4S is Already Unlocked

An unlocked iPhone 4S were ‘officially’ came out in November last year. We want to remember you once more that in accordance with 9to5Mac, if you purchased an off-contract unlocked iPhone 4S from AT&T, your device is definitely unlocked.

“Off Contract” iPhones 4S are sold at full market price and do not lock you into a contract with AT&T. The costs of these models are $649, $749 and $849 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB iPhone 4S models.

The discovering was mentioned by 9to5Mac and had already been talked about in the MacRumors forums where a variety of users realized that iTunes informed them of the “Congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked” message from iTunes:

I really have no idea. Part of me thinks it was some kind of glitch. The only thing I can think of is that a paid full price and didn’t extend my contract. I ordered through Apple too. I wish there was a way I could confirm it, but I don’t have any T Mobile or foreign sims laying around lol – BFW122083

The same thing appeared on mine when I did a restore… I am wondering if it came like this from the factory because I paid the full $849.99 for a 64 GB because my AT&T contract was not eligible for an upgrade…”- mjcxp

The most popular thread was that they were purchased as off contract iPhone 4S released recently. Developer @stroughtonsmith has since confirmed this by getting one himself.
