FaceTime issues have been noticed by Apple. Users have been complaining about FaceTime problems for a while, especially customers with iOS 6 iPhones and other gadgets with this operating system version. Even iOS 7.0.4 FaceTime fix wasn’t available and the issue with iOS 7 existed and still exist.
Apple presented a document where it details the problem and tells how iOS 6 iPhone and iPad owners can act to fix it. The company believes that this issue occurs because of the expired certificate on your iDevices. Once it renders the FaceTime option as unusable you cannot use it any more. Some previous versions of iOS firmware have faced this problem.
FaceTime Fix for iOS 6
If you are still using iOS 6 on your iPhone 5S / 5c / 4 / 5 / 4S and cannot receive and make calls via FaceTime, you are advised to install iOS 7. Don’t worry. Apple doesn’t say that users with the bug must update to the iOS 7.1 or 7.1.1 to fix it. Updating to iOS 7.0.4 and 7.0.6 allows jailbreaking your iPhone if this is what you want to do.
If your iPod or iPhone is not supported by iOS 7 you need to install iOS 6.1.6, according to Apple. This should help to solve the problem with FaceTime.
iOS 7.0.4 FaceTime Fix
A lot of devices certificates expired on April 16 this year making their owners unable to make FaceTime calls. Update to the newer firmware version and the problem will be gone. The problem does not affect users who have installed iOS 6.1.6, iOS 7.0.4 and newer versions of Apple mobile operating system.
Even though the new iOS 7.1 beta 1 was intended for developers testing only, some iPhone and iPad users could upgrade to this firmware version manually. The operating system is beta meaning it has a lot of bugs and problems. Some people might like to downgrade iOS 7.1 beta back to v.7.0.4 and here is how you can do this.
This guide is meant for iPhone 4 users only. So if you have this iPhone model with iOS 7.1 beta 1 installed on it you can get back to iOS 7.0.4 with ease by following these simple steps.
Downgrade iOS 7.1 Beta
Here is what you need to do to get back to iOS 7.0.4 from the latest beta available for developers to test.
Step 1. You need to find and save iOS 7.0.4 as it will be important for successful downgrading.
Step 2. You should also use your iPhone with iOS 7.1 beta 1 on it, iTunes and a USB cable.
Step 4. Enter the DFU mode. It does look like restore process and it is mostly this manually procedure. You need to press and hold Power button for approximately 5 seconds and add Home button for another 10 seconds (don’t release the Power key yet). Keep pressing on the Home key while releasing the Power for about 15 seconds and you will enter DFU state [the screen will become black].
Step 5. iTunes will suggest you need to get restored. Press down SHIFT for Windows / Alt/Option for Mac and select Restore option.
Step 6. Point the program to iOS 7.0.4 file you downloaded and enjoy getting back to this firmware version.
P.S. You can also downgrade iOS 7.1 beta 1 iPhone 4 to earlier versions of iOS 7.x and 6.x following the similar procedure. We need to mention that this method will be useless with the public iOS 7.1 release because Apple will not sign v.7.0.4 after launching 7.1.
Some Apple fans are able to jailbreak their iPhone running iOS 7.0.4. There are particular restrictions and requirements for this to happen. You should have iPhone 4 either CDMA or GSM version. To jailbreak iOS 7.0.4 smartphone you need to install this version of firmware and use special program created for Windows computers.
Don’t expect it to be similar to Evasi0n’s tool or Geohot’s creations. RageBreak tool works in a different way. Last time I wrote about OpenSn0w iOS 7 jailbreak but this is something different. It supports iPhone 4 model only. We’ll share the instruction on how to jailbreak iOS 7.0.4 handset and you can manage everything on your own.
Step 1.Save RageBreak.exe file on PC desktop. You will have to open it as an Administrator.
Step 2.Launch RageBreak and select the first option in the program. Click OK when you see a pop-up window and let the application get / build opens0w files.
Step 3.iPhone 4 should be placed into DFU mode. Do this by clicking / holding Home and Power keys together for about 10 seconds. Then let the Power button off but keep pressing the Home key for another 10-15 seconds.
Step 4.When your smartphone is in DFU mode choose the second option “Jailbreak” and say Ok.
Step 5. The program will make your press OK each time it completes the steps for jailbreaking. You should exit the Java application only when all the files are transferred.
Step 6.Repeat Step 3 to get into DFU mode again and choose Boot option according to your iPhone 4 model. Press OK.
You will have to go through this procedure every time the handset reboots.
Step 7. Go to Settings – Wi-Fi and get IP address for the smartphone.
Step 8. Choose “Install Cydia” in RageBreak program and type the IP address you got.
Step 9. After Cydia is installed you will need to Repeat Step 3 and Boot your tethered jailbroken iPhone 4.
